Mount Jebel Toubkal, also known as Mount Thor, has become a worldwide symbol of adventure. It is one of the world’s largest mountains and sits in the middle of a valley nestled between two other mountains. The mountain was first climbed on April 2, 1853 by a group of British mountaineers led by Charles Howard-Bury. It is one of only three peaks in Africa that have been summited by Europeans.
Mount Jebel Toubkal is located in the southern region of Morocco near Marrakech and Fez. It stands at an elevation of 4,167 meters (13,362 feet).
The mountain has six summits: North Peak (also known as El Capit), Middle Peak (also known as Petiton), South Peak (also known as La Meije), East Peak (also known as La Meije), West Peak (also known as Jebel Toubkal) and Central Peak (also known as Jebel Lir). Mount Everest has two routes from different country for climbing but Manaslu, Ama Dablam and Island peak have only one i.e Nepal.
Jebel Toubkal has different climbing routes:
– The West Ridge Route: This is a very challenging route that requires rock climbing skills to reach the summit. During this climb, you will see many beautiful views of Lake Nasser and other lakes around it. This route takes approximately three days to complete.
– The Northeast Ridge Route: This is another difficult route that takes about five days to complete. You will have to climb up three different peaks before reaching your destination at Mount Toubkal’s summit.
If you climb to more than 3,000 metres above sea level, you may experience altitude sickness. Since you will sleep at three thousand metres during the first and possibly second nights of your climb to the Toubkal massif, it is important to be aware of the symptoms of altitude sickness so that you can treat them accordingly. Symptoms of altitude sickness start to appear within a few hours after arrival at high altitude and include nausea, shortness of breath and headaches. A general feeling of fatigue will take away all joy from your climb until you become acclimatized again. You may have difficulty falling asleep or experience dizziness; furthermore, severe headaches are possible as well. Here are some tips that can help prevent this from happening:
